How many EU citizens are affected by noise from neighbours or the street?

In 2023, 18.1% of people across the EU reported being affected by noise from neighbours or the street, with Malta recording the highest share at 31.3%, followed by Luxembourg at 30.2%, while Croatia had the lowest rate at 6.7%.

Note: Noise pollution provides one measure of the effect that noise may have on an individual’s quality of life. It is formally defined as exposure to ambient sound levels that are beyond usual comfort levels. The information that follows is based on self-reported disturbance from noise originating from neighbours or the street.
